Sharon was born in Spearfish, South Dakota and has worked toward being an artist her whole life. She attended art programs at both Black Hills State, where she learned from watercolorist Dick Dubois, and Baylor University. She graduated summa cum laude in 2003, and since that time, she has worked as a freelance artist and illustrator with a specialization in watercolor painting.
Sharon has worked with around thirty private authors and corporations to illustrate approximately forty books, as well as creating commissioned art for individuals and corporations from around the world. For seven years, she was the featured artist on the Australian website: Drawing-Made-easy.com and filmed tutorials on everything from drawing in perspective to working in graphite, pastels, oils, and of course, watercolors.
Sharon has been a signature member of the Northern Plains Watercolor Society for thirteen years, and in that time has been awarded the Gold Brush award (highest honor) three years in a row, as well as the Silver Brush, Bronze Brush, Merit Awards, Juror’s Award, and the Dubois Memorial Award. She has taken workshops from such watercolor greats as Betty Carr, Stan Miller, and Morgan Samuel Price.
Her watercolor paintings have been published in “Watercolor Artist” in 2016 and 2017 with her gold award pieces, and she was the only South Dakota artist chosen to participate in the Midwest Artist Studios Project in 2016.
Sharon was recently interviewed on a PBS radio broadcast to talk about her painting style and involvement in the Northern Plains Watercolor Society. You can listen here.
